Serve

A consistent serve that sets up the point—placement first, then controlled spin.

Quick start
  • Pick one high-percentage target and hit it repeatedly.
  • Keep your motion repeatable; speed comes after consistency.
  • Aim deep when possible—depth buys time and limits angles.
Common mistakes
  • Trying to ‘win the point’ with the serve instead of starting the rally well.
  • Big, variable toss/contact that hurts timing.
  • Serving short or high, giving up an easy return.
Drills
serveservingplacement
  • Target ladder: 10 serves to deep middle, then 10 to backhand corner.
  • Make 20-in-a-row: restart the count on any miss.
  • Serve + first ball: serve, then shadow-step into ready position.
